Is destiny real? Some people say yes, others disagree. Late one night, this question rang through my head, and the answer seemed obvious to me. In order to come to a conclusion about this, I first needed to understand what destiny meant. I have heard people describe destiny as your life being predetermined. You are put on this earth to fulfill your destiny, your purpose, and if you don’t fulfill this destiny, there will be someone else born on this earth to fulfill it for you. I feel like this idea is unreasonable. It's hard to believe that this is true, yet some people support this. They back up their claim by saying that the past, present, and future are all predetermined by the cosmic system called destiny which was created, by the Big Bang, during the birth of the universe. Even Albert Einstein himself believed in destiny which led him to develop the idea that time travel was a possibility. If everything is predetermined, creating a time machine that goes through time seemed feasible to him. However, I can’t seem to wrap my head around the idea that destiny exists. I like to believe that humans are unpredictable. You think they are going to do one thing but they go the other way. When this is the case, how is it possible for destiny to know the next decision humans, such as myself, will make? I don’t even know the next decision I will make!
Instead I believe in fate, or at least what I believe fate means. Most people believe that fate and destiny are the same but I disagree. I have a different idea when it comes to fate. In my perspective, fate can push you in the right direction. Fate can give you two paths to choose from in different situations throughout life. It can show you that one path is better than the other, but in the end, it is ultimately up to you to decide. Then, based on the decision that you make, other paths will be shown to you. I like to think of fate as an adventure game. Fate gives you decisions to make and those results become the outcome of your life.
I’m not saying that what I believe is right and what others believe is wrong. Everyone can have an idea that they believe in, but in the end no one truly knows. There’s no proof backing up any of the claims being made; they are opinions, not facts. We may never know if the world is already set in stone, but it’s something to think about the next time a big decision is thrown your way.
